I acquired the original version 1 of this album (a 3 microphone Analog Recording) from Fone on an SACD and ripped it to my hard drive several years ago. I was very disappointed with the sound. It was compressed with a narrow soundstage, and I never listened to it again.
But I decided to try version 2 (a 2 microphone Analog Recording) as a DSD Download from NativeDSD. Wow what difference. Broad soundstage, much more detail, altogether a far more enjoyable experience. This once again proves that it’s not all about an SACD vs a DSD Download and sample rates in my view. Recording technique first and foremost matters.
